BGMI Banned In India; Here's What Google And Krafton Said | Clusterdam

EW DELHI: A year after PUBG Mobile was banned in India, South Korean game developer Krafton relaunched the same game with minor tweaks and renamed it Battlegrounds Mobile India, or BGMI. However, it appears that BGMI has also been banned in India.

While no official statement has been issued by the IT ministry, the BGMI game has been confirmed to have been removed from both the Google Play and Apple App stores. Krafton also confirmed the news, saying, "We are clarifying how BGMI was removed from Google Play and the App store and will let you know once we have specific information."
While the game has been removed from app stores, if you already have it installed on your smartphone, you will be able to play it until it is no longer possible.

Meanwhile, Google has confirmed that it has received an official government order to remove the game. "Upon receipt of the order, we notified the affected developer and blocked access to the app that remained available on the Play Store in India," the company said.
Battlegrounds Mobile India, the Indian version of the popular battle royale game PUBG Mobile, recently passed 100 million registered users in the country, just about a year after it was relaunched as BGMI after the government in India banned PUBG Mobile.
PRAHAR, an NGO, urged the government in February 2022 to block the Chinese gaming app BGMI-PUBG and add it to the list of 54 Chinese apps banned on February 14, 2022, citing its omission as a "clear lapse in judgement on the part of the Government."
The Government of India banned PUBG mobile on September 2, 2020. It was relaunched as Battlegrounds Mobile India after ten months (BGMI). BGMI is the most popular of the Chinese apps that have been relaunched and rebranded with the same features and have managed to avoid scrutiny.
